At the initiative of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the call for Sport and Development projects aims to support local projects that use sport as a driver for sustainable development in Africa and Haiti. Operated by the European Guild, the programme funds and supports microprojects managed through partnerships between French civil society organisations (CSOs) and local partners.

Overview

The Sport & Development programme promotes the practice of sport as a vehicle for peace and development by providing support and funding for microprojects based mainly in Africa. A microproject is defined as a long-term development action that is initiated locally to meet the needs expressed by the beneficiaries – who are stakeholders in their own development. It is characterised by: local cooperation, low overall cost, small-scale geographical impact, and the potential for innovation and replication.
The Sport & Development programme provides support and funding for development through sport microprojects in Africa and Haiti. These microprojects must be managed by French international cooperation CSOs working in partnership with local actors.
