A project managed by Libre Vue

Using the art of photography, the association Libre Vue (Free View) seeks to combat injustice and violence; improve the perception of victims, disadvantaged persons and persons with disabilities; and promote gender equality.
In partnership with the Institute for Blind Youth in Bamako, the association Libre Vue has launched a programme in Mali called “Solidarité Aveugle” (Blind Solidarity). The programme places blind football at the core of the development of visually impaired young people. To continue its work, the association wants to improve its sports facilities and provide young players with better playing conditions.

Context

In 2012, Libre Vue successfully built a pitch designed specifically for blind football in the grounds of the Institute for Blind Youth in Bamako. Since then, boys and girls of all ages have been enjoying facilities adapted to their disability, under appropriate supervision.

An exceptional personal development tool, blind football is a school of life where everyone has the opportunity to overcome their own limitations and present another image of themselves to their family and friends and their social environment. Team sports give young people the chance to strengthen their self-confidence and their sense of community belonging.
The association Libre Vue now wants to help these young people pursue their dream: to participate in the Paralympic Games !

Goals

  • Improve the facilities and the running of the blind football centre in Bamako (installation of synthetic turf, upkeep, training, etc.)
  • Increase the quality, safety and fun of playing and encourage more children from the Institute for Blind Youth to play
  • Promote the social inclusion and professional integration of young people
  • Develop an economic model allowing the “Solidarité Aveugle” programme to become financially independent

Activities

  • Creation of a pitch specifically for blind football in the grounds of the Institute for Blind Youth, with adjacent changing rooms
  • Provision of football shirts, shorts and other equipment
  • Supervision by qualified specialist instructors
  • Educating children in order to change perceptions of disability
  • Drilling a well for free access to safe drinking water, renewing a vegetable garden and restoring a henhouse at the school
