Impacts of Sport for Development on Employability of Youth in Albania and North Macedonia - GiZ
Quality education
Decent work and economic growth
Since 2017, GIZ has been implementing the Sport for Development (S4D) program in Albania and North Macedonia to promote youth development and employability amidst high youth unemployment rates. A quasi-experimental, longitudinal study evaluated the impact of S4D on communication, self-confidence, cooperation, and goal orientation among youth in high schools and vocational education and training (VET) schools. The findings reveal a positive trend, with significant but small effects on self-confidence and goal orientation. However, S4D showed no significant impact on communication skills, and cooperation improvements were limited, requiring a longer intervention period. The study suggests that a longer duration and career counseling could enhance the programme’s impact. A second study, set for 2023/2024, will assess the effects of a year-long intervention to explore if extended periods yield more significant results.
