School Sport Survey State of the Nation - Sport Wales
Good health and well being
Gender equality
Reduced inequalities
This State of the Nation Report presents findings from the 2022 Sport Wales School Sport Survey, which gathered responses from over 116,000 pupils across 1,000 schools. The survey explores young people's attitudes, behaviours, and opportunities in sport, helping to shape future policies and practices. Key findings include a 9% decrease in pupils participating in sport outside of school three or more times a week, with 36% reporting no frequent participation. Participation in community clubs dropped by 9%. There is a 15% gap in sports participation between the most and least deprived areas. While 93% of pupils wanted more sport, 56% faced unmet demand. Enjoyment varied, with 40% enjoying extracurricular sports "a lot" and 69% feeling confident trying new sports. The findings highlight the need for targeted action to increase participation and address barriers in sports access.
