Women's Participation In Sport Across Europe - EWS Committee ENGSO
Good health and well being
Gender equality
Reduced inequalities
The EWS Committee of ENGSO conducted a study during June, July, and August 2023 to understand the situation of women in sport across Europe. It gathered responses from self-identified women aged 18+ living in Council of Europe member states. The goal was to gain insights into women's perceptions and experiences in sport, supporting fairness, equality, and inclusion. Building on 2022 research into LGBTQI+ topics, which resulted in four factsheets on LBTQI+ women, sport participation, safe sport, and the COVID-19 legacy, the 2023 report focused on advancing equality in sport. It adopted an intersectional approach, examining six socio-demographic factors—age, gender identity, sexual orientation, migrant background, socio-economic status, and disability. This deeper analysis highlights the experiences of women, particularly those marginalized by multiple forms of oppression, aiming to make sport safer and more inclusive for all women in Europe.
