Phase 1 of the 4th and final session of the call for projects Impact 2024 International, co-financed by Paris 2024 and AFD, was closed on February 13.

AFD and Paris 2024 are pursuing their desire to bring the world of sport and development closer together with a 4ᵉ edition of the Impact 2024 International call for projects. After three first sessions thanks to which 32 initiatives in Africa were awarded grants ranging from €10,000 to €40,000, the 4th session is a success as it accumulates the highest number of applications, all sessions combined

In total, 306 projects were submitted during the application period for an average amount requested of 31 K€. Senegal (31), Benin (22) and Uganda (20) were the top three countries in terms of projects submitted.

28 countries from the African continent are represented in the projects submitted, using unusual sports such as cricket, capoeira or chess as well as new Olympic sports like surf and skateboard. Many combat sports are also represented such as boxing, wrestling, karate or fencing. In terms of impact, SDGs 1, 3, 4 and 5 are the most targeted.

94 project leaders were finally shortlisted for phase 2 of the call for projects. These 94 organisations have until April 17, 2023 to continue their application for funding. The final list of winners will be communicated from June 19, 2023.
