Sport Impact Awards: the 11 winners of the second edition

As part of the Sport Impact Summit, the Sport Impact Awards highlighted a number of projects that stood out in 2022 for their impact and their innovative approach to using sport. This 2nd edition, like the 1st, brought together stakeholders in sport and development from several countries on the continent: Benin, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Senegal, etc.

The winners, selected by call for projects or at the discretion of the jury, were awarded the following trophies:

• The Public Action of the Year trophy went to Visit Rwanda for its actions to promote the development of sports tourism through partnerships with key players in the ecosystem. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best Sport & Health initiative was awarded to Watoto Wasoka for his “Building Resilience through Football” project, which uses sport to promote the mental well-being of young people living in the slums of Kampala, Uganda. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for sports infrastructure of the year was awarded to the Stade Abdoulaye Wade, a FIFA-compliant stadium adapted to the culture of the local population. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best Sport & Education initiative went to ASC Malika Surf for its project “Surfkids Shredding Sénégal: Sport et Etudes”, which uses surfing to combat inequalities in access to education in Senegal. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best Sport & Gender initiative went to the Footeuses Plus Africa association for its project to promote women’s sport in Benin through the distribution of trophies and support for players in their digital communication strategy. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best Sport & Inclusion initiative went to Bayine Sports Activities for its initiative using sport as a means of integrating several refugee communities in Egypt. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best Sport & Innovation initiative was awarded to Sunugal Surfboard Repair for its original project to manufacture surfboards from recycled materials. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best sports competition of the year was awarded to the women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2022 for its contribution to promoting women’s football. Find out more, by clicking here!
• The Sport Impact Leader of the Year trophy was awarded to Astou N’Diaye for her project to empower young girls in rural areas through basketball. Find out more by clicking here!
• The Jury’s Special Prize trophy was awarded to “Pour le Sourire d’un Enfant” association for its work in supporting and reintegrating young minors through fencing. Find out more by clicking here!
• The trophy for the best e-sport initiative went to the Sengames association for setting up “SOLO Esport”, a professional club that coaches and supports young e-sport talent in Senegal. Find out more by clicking here!
