The French Development Agency (AFD) and Paris 2024 are revealing the first ten winners of the call for projects “Impact 2024 International” on Sustainable Development through sport in Africa and are launching the second edition.

The French Development Agency (AFD) and Paris 2024 are opening the second edition of the call for projects Impact 2024 International until February, 15th 2022. A total of 300,000 euros is dedicated the funding of projects using sport for sustainable development in Africa, on common priorities that are health, education, inclusion, equality and environment. This call for projects extends the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games beyond borders in line with the call for projects Impact 2024 deployed on the French territory. 

Ten laureates for 2021

The jury selected ten projects that will be implemented in nine African countries and funded with a total of 329,000 euros. Aligned with the legacy priorities of Paris 2024, all of these projects are stamped Impact 2024. Most of the projects target Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Health and Well-being), 4 (Education), and 5 (Gender Equality). Collective sports are particularly represented (football, volleyball, rugby), along with sailing and table tennis.

The first edition of this call for projects Impact 2024 International (opened from July to September 2021) generated a record number of 275 projects submitted. Most of these projects are led by NGOs in West Africa and East Africa.

In December, 22 projects have been presented to the selection committee of the call for projects composed of representative of the French Development Agency, Paris 2024, the French ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, La Guilde, Sport Impact and a panel of external experts from the sport and international solidarity sectors.

Eligibility criteria and procedure for the second session

Eligible structures (associations, foundations, local authorities, enterprises, sports clubs, federations, cooperatives, state structures, amongst others) are invited to submit their projects for this second edition of Impact 2024 on the platform Sport en Commun until February, 15th 2022, 8pm (GMT). A  tutorial to help you submit your project is available.  

Projects must take place in Africa. The 54 countries of the continent are eligible, outside the red zones defined by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. In conformity with AFD and Paris 2024 priorities, a particular attention will be given to projects targeting vulnerable publics and zones with a fragile context. Winners will benefit from a funding of up to 40 000 euros per project, up to a maximum of 75% of the overall project budget.
