Project supported by Sages Femmes Sans Frontières

SFSF is an NGO founded in 2009 that advocates for change in North-South aid. SFSF works in a multi-actor network and co-constructs sustainable voluntary actions aiming to improve the global health of populations through a gender and sustainable development approach.
The Pass-SPORT project aims to contribute to the emancipation of girls and to promote gender equality through the practice of sports in a suitable environment. The cost of the project is €67,622.

Context

The Covid-19 has disrupted the local economic fabric, human relations and reinforced gender inequalities. A one-month field diagnosis carried out by SFSF in 2021 established that 75% of young people aged 16-25 are unemployed. According to the same study, 60% of girls aged between 13 and 24 have had unwanted pregnancies, exposing them to maternal mortality, school drop-out and socio-economic insecurity.

Relying on the awareness-raising power of sport, SFSF uses physical activity as a means to fight against unwanted pregnancies. This project is therefore part of a context of awareness-raising and prevention of mortality among young girls and children in Benin.
