Training of teachers in the Fútbol Más methodology
Context
Impacted by various scourges in recent years (notably the COVID-19 pandemic and Cyclone Eloise), the Mozambican people have been deprived of a large part of their livelihood. Furthermore, despite the government’s actions to develop the education sector – including waiving some school fees, providing direct support to schools, offering free textbooks to young people and investing in the construction of new classrooms – the situation in the sector remains worrying.
A 2014 World Bank survey indicated that only 1% of primary school teachers had the minimum knowledge required to perform their duties, and only one in four teachers could perform two-digit subtraction. Absenteeism among teachers was estimated at 45%, and absenteeism among school principals at 44%.
Through its initiative, Fútbol Más wants to train teachers and facilitators to use its sociosports education programme to strengthen their skills and develop their teaching strategies with students.
