Project supported by Delta Evasion Association

Delta Evasion is an association set up in 2009 to promote outdoor activities, mountain sports and ecotourism in Morocco.
The project aims to mentor 500 young girls aged between 14 and 22, most of the girls come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Sport is used as a tool for empowerment and personal development.

Context

According to the World Bank (2021), the participation rate of women in the workforce in Morocco remains low despite a higher GDP per capita, a lower fertility rate and better access to education. Women are less likely  to get a decent job and become independant.

Yet women’s participation in the labour market not only supports economic growth but also increases household investment in education and health.

Goals

  • Using sport as a lever for the development and emancipation of young girls
  • Developing girls’ leadership skills, self-confidence and ability to work as part of a team
  • Helping young girls to get a job through training in job-seeking techniques

Activities

  • Sports activities: 2 climbing sessions, 4 hikes, 2 football sessions, 1 trail run
  • Personal development workshops
  • Workshops to prepare for the labour market (CV writing, job interviews, etc.)
  • Organisation of 2 mural workshops
  • Climbing Mount Toubkal

Targeted impacts / Results

  • The beneficiaries of the program develop their self-confidence, their ability to work as part of a team and acquire a set of personal life skills (self-improvement, perseverance and determination)
  • 60% of the girls find a job and 10% of them start their own business
  • Beneficiaries get better sporting skills
  • The girls continue their studies and are able to speak up and assert themselves
