Project supported by Cocody Rugby Abidjan Club

Cocody Rugby Abidjan Club is a sports organisation formed in 2015. It aims at introducing children to rugby, promoting and playing a part in the development of rugby in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Cocody Rugby Abidjan Club project trains 12-to-18-year olds to develop talents in rugby. Beyond that event, several opportunities are provided such as young girls’ education in personal development, and some educational modules. The global budget for the project’s execution is €60,000.

Context

Ivorian rugby, following the numerous efforts made by the Ivorian Rugby Federation, has made remarkable progress at international level. The Côte d’Ivoire team has managed to bring out the athletic potential in the sport. The Ivorian Rugby Federation has provided a new impetus by focusing on the local players for better results. It is necessary to make similar endeavour to galvanise the Ivorian women’s rugby.

In order to generate the same opportunities for women rugby players, Cocody Rugby Abidjan Club is using the sport to reinforce women’s condition in the sporting field and provide quality education to the young girls.

Objectives

  • Promote and develop “Women’s Rugby 7’s” in Côte d’Ivoire;
  • Share and reinforce young girls’ personal development;
  • Detect talents and improve their sporting potential to hold them up as examples for the other girls.

 

Activities

  • Women’s rugby contest with all the women’s teams in the country (CRAC);
  • Awareness workshops on sexual and reproductive health;
  • Training in personal development, learning and insertion to become a professional player.

 

Impacts

  • 300 direct 14-to-20-year-old beneficiaries;
  • A hundred or so volunteers;
  • 135 5-to-18-year-old licence holders;
  • About thirty educators shall be trained.
