Sport for a better inclusion for persons with reduced mobility
Context
Since the genocide ended in 1994, one of the Rwandan government’s priorities has been the fight with all forms of discrimination and exclusion, including the stigmatisation of persons with reduced mobility, the main victims of the civil war. So, to facilitate the latter’s inclusion, the National Paralympics Committee of Rwanda counts on sports’ integrative power by staging an annual para-volleyball championship. The 2019-2020 events were interrupted following the Covid-19 pandemic to protect vulnerable persons.
So as to restart the championship, the National Paralympics Committee of Rwanda undertakes to modernise the events by running some outreach programmes. The focus shall be laid on athlete protection in the context of a pandemic.

- Enabling any athletes with reduced mobility to exercise their right to practise sport
- Promoting the rights and social inclusion of Rwandan people with reduced mobility
- Sensitising on Covid-19’s preventive measures
