Project supported by Enfant du Bénin Debout

Established in 2012 by Former professional basketball player Ahmed Taofik, Enfants du Bénin Debout Association is engaged in developmental and educational actions through sport. It aims to provide support to the younger generations through sporting, educational and cultural projects in various countries in Africa, especially in Bénin.
The project's objects are to create an events caravan combining basketball and sensitisation on health. It aims at being dynamic and at improving youngsters' well-being through sport focused on hygiene and good health, notably in epidemiological prevention, nutrition, sexual education, STIs, etc.

Context

The recent religious and ethnic conflicts have disrupted the Central African Republic’s societal balance. For EBD, deprivation, and the absence of financial means and adequate facilities have caused harsh living conditions, especially among the young (under 23s) who make up about 65 % of the population. They often live on their own and have to make their way in the society and succeed with little support in a postwar and pandemic-raging context.

Faced with such urgent social worries, sport has emerged as an unavoidable fun, attractive and learning anchor tool for accompanying the young. The association relies on the power of basketball, CAR’s king of sport, to create a fruitful climate of communication with the young trainees.
