DEVLOP – Local Development through shared Olympism: sport in the City!
Context
Like several African countries, Senegal is facing the problem of management of waste, a source of health and environmental constraints. Approximately 2,789,000 tonnes of waste are produced each year and barely 30% is recycled (UCG, 2019). The city of Saint-Louis, a UNESCO heritage site, is particularly affected by this problem. Tons of untreated waste accumulate, polluting its water and clogging its facilities.
In addition to the problems of sanitation, the city of Saint-Louis faces challenges in terms of education, youth employment and health.
The ASSCAN association, through its initiative, uses sport to promote social development.
