TIBU Maroc : promoting inclusive basketball
Context
More than 40% of the population of Morocco is currently under the age of 24. This generation is more likely to drop out of school (two out of three young people, on average) and faces a high rate of unemployment. According to a report published by the Office of the High Commissioner for Planning, Morocco’s statistics agency, around 66% of the unemployed are young people aged 15 to 29.
Some 82% of young people do not participate in any physical activity or cultural pastime, and 72% of their time is spent on non-productive activities that do not contribute to social welfare (the conclusions of the Moroccan Economic, Social and Environmental Council).
Against this backdrop, TIBU Maroc has committed itself to supporting the Government’s strategy by contributing to the mentoring and development of young Moroccans through participation in sport, in particular basketball.
