Education through sports
Context
Senegal is ranked 104th out of 156 countries according to the gender inequality index (Global Gender Gap Report, 2021). Despite progress in education, where girls represent 52% of students in general secondary education (World Bank, 2018), they remain victims of several discriminations such as unequal access to resources and economic opportunities.
In sport, women are victims of gender-based violence. The survey conducted by PwC on women’s sport in Senegal (2021) revealed that the practice of sport by girls was limited by family obligations, difficult access to infrastructure and equipment, and the absence of a national policy for the development of women’s sport.
