Mental Health Trough Football Coaching
Context
With a population of about c.54m inhabitants, Kenya has achieved significant political and economic reforms over the last years contributing to sustained economic growth, social development, and higher political stability.
Yet, the COVID-19 has hit the Kenyan economy which has slowed-down by 0.3% in 2020. The pandemic has cost young people income and employment opportunities. About half of young men and women (45% and 53% respectively) have not been able to meet their basic needs including physical and mental health.
Objectives
- Increase knowledge on mental health
- Generate a positive impact on attitudes and behavior associated with mental health
Activities
- Training of 30 school teachers to deliver mental health education through football coaching on a weekly basis as part of their physical education lessons
Impacts
- Increase the knowledge associated with mental health for 3,015 children
