Project supported by CADEV

The “Cercle d'Appui pour le Développement des Enfants Vulnérables” (CADEV) is an association working with children and young people in vulnerable situations, giving them access to quality training while promoting their empowerment.
The Midzo-Midzo project aims to promote the socio-economic development of young people in the commune of Yoto in Togo through cycling and football.

Context

According to the World Bank (2023), poverty levels in Togo are twice as high in rural areas (58.8%) as in urban areas (26.5%). Yoto 1, like the other rural communes, has a high poverty index and a predominantly agricultural population. Due to the limited choice of economic and leisure activities, young people migrate to the capital, 80 km away.

Despite the efforts made, challenges remain to ensure access to sporting activities, particularly for women and young people in rural areas.

To meet these challenges, the Midzo-Mizdo project promotes access to sporting activities for young people and women.

Goals

  • Promoting access to sport for women and young people in rural areas
  • Promote the physical, mental and sexual health of young people
  • Promote women’s inclusion, gender equality, empowerment and leadership

Activities

  • Organization of cycling races
  • Organization of inter-cantonal women’s soccer tournaments
  • Selection and establishment of a cycling club and a women’s soccer club
  • Club training on various themes (sexual health, citizenship, etc.)
  • Training young people in areas related to the manufacture and repair of sports equipment

Targeted impacts / Results

  • 500 direct beneficiaries
  • Better access to sport for the community in rural areas
  • Physical and mental health improvement
  • Launch of a women’s soccer team in the commune
  • Improvement of young people’s entrepreneurial skills
