Youth Talent Foundation is a community based organisation and youth centre in Mubende District, Uganda that provides youth related services. The organisation identifies, promotes and develops talented young people to help them develop socially and economically.
The Project is to introduce the netball sport to the local community as a path of developing youths in Mubende district and Uganda as a whole. The “Sports for local communities” program was designed by Youth Talent Foundation with the aim of identifying, promoting and sustaining talented sports men and women who may have left school and can no longer access sports activities like those provided in schools, the program was meant to provide a continuation of their career towards sports.

Context

A 2017 Youth Talent Foundation survey revealed that sports extended to local communities of Mubende district would help create solutions to reduce the high levels of unemployment, non-communicable diseases and gender equality. This would demand establishment of sports centres to create safe spaces to encourage young people enrol and change the perspective of sports from being a leisure activity to a professional job career.

A few civil society organisations (less than 2%) in Uganda have tried to tackle youth issues with sports maintaining the problem of limited access to local sporting programmes for Youth development. There’s a need to improve sports to increase more African engagement in sports on the world wide scale, competing various games and increase of sports centres.
