Supported by Special Olympics Senegal

Established in 1968, Special Olympics is an international organisation that promotes the social inclusion through sport of persons with intellectual disabilities. The main objective of the Senegalese programme is the inclusion of persons belonging to this population group through their self-development and by highlighting their skills and abilities
This project aims to organise a unified football tournament featuring discussion sessions on the benefits of sport and inclusion, on violence against women and on sexual health. It will also set up medical screening to foster beneficiaries’ access to health. The total cost of the project is €22K.

Context

In Senegal, according to a study from Handicap International, people with disabilities face important obstacles to access health and education services or employment. The inclusion of children with disabilities in the educative system is an essential development challenge in Senegal where around 35% of children from 7 to 16 years old have a disability (2013 census). Among them, 66% are not registered in a school programme.
