Vibrant adolescents
Context
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted heavily on other areas of health, learning and livelihoods. These crises seem to have affected young people to the core. Various studies have shown that a lot of adolescent girls have become pregnant and dropped out of school following the COVID-19 pandemic (WHO, 2021). In Ghana too, a lot of adolescents got pregnant following the pandemic. According to World Vision (2020) in Krachi East District, teen pregnancies have increased by nine times about two months into the pandemic in Ghana.
Thus, the project “vibrant adolescent”, aims to educate adolescents on reproductive health issues and empower them through football.
Goals
- To inform girls about reproductive health
- To improve the social and economic condition of girls
- To provide psychosocial support to pregnant adolescents and young mothers
Activities
- Football tournament
- Seminars and clinics on adolescent sexual life for young people by key stakeholders
- Vocational trainings for pregnant and parenting girls
- Provision of stipends to pregnant and parenting girls returning to school
- Psychosocial support for adolescents who are pregnant or parenting, and those who may have suffered violence or abuse in relationships
Impact
- Pregnant and parenting teens will be trained on a vocation
- Teens who dropped out of school due to pregnancy will return to school
- Adolescents will be well informed about sexuality, safe sex and motherhood
Financing
The cost of the project is €124,032.
