Training and socio-professional integration of vulnerable girls and women
Context
Guinea is one of the sub-Saharan African countries with a high illiteracy rate, 60% in 2018. This rate is 72% for women and 46% for men (World Bank, 2018). Due to certain stereotypes, women are unable to access education and participate fully in the country’s economic and social life.
Goals
- Promote the practice of sport, especially among young girls and women, in schools and communities
- Promote the women economic empowerment
- Set up two sports associations in each commune of Diari and Dara Labé
Activities
- Participatory rehabilitation of soccer pitches
- Organization of two inter-school tournaments for girls
- Setting up sewing workshops
- Awareness-raising sessions on gender issues, children’s rights, sexual violence and inclusion
- Training session for boys aged 14 to 18 on gender equality issues
- Organization of awareness-raising sessions for parents and families on gender stereotypes, equal opportunities and female sports participation
- Organization of a 10km mixed race
Targeted impacts/Results
- The play grounds are adapted to the practice of sport and are accessible to all
- 60 beneficiaries are trained in sewing
- 60 beneficiaries learn to read and write
- 2 sports associations created
- Gender stereotypes about women’s soccer are reduced
- Boys become allies of the women’s cause and raise awareness among their peers
- Families open up to intergenerational dialogue and support their daughters
